Bangladesh have been fined 10 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate during the second men’s ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare.
The punishment came on another disappointing day for Bangladesh. They lost the match by 13 runs as Zimbabwe took an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three match series. Bangladesh had also lost the opening ODI by 25 runs after failing to chase a target of 142.
David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction. Bangladesh were found to be two overs short of the required rate after time allowances were taken into account.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction. That meant there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge was laid by on field umpires Allahudien Palekar and Iknow Chabi, third umpire Percival Sizara and fourth umpire Forster Mutizwa.
