A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of immovable assets worth approximately Tk1.89 crore belonging to Nahida Runai, a former vice president of International Leasing and Financial Services Ltd and an associate of the disgraced Proshanta Kumar (PK) Halder.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez passed the order on Sunday following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The court’s decision was confirmed by Bench Assistant Riaz Hossain.
The seized properties include a flat at Rangs View Park in Dhanmondi, a six-storey residential building situated on 10 decimals of land in Khulshi, Chattogram, a three-katha plot in Uttara, and six kathas of non-agricultural land in Rupganj, Narayanganj.
According to the ACC application submitted by Deputy Director Sajib Ahmed, the total value of these assets is estimated at Tk 1.89 crore.
The ACC informed the court that a corruption investigation against Nahida Runai is currently ongoing. The commission’s application stated that intelligence sources suggested Runai was attempting to transfer or relocate these immovable properties.
The commission argued that if these assets were successfully handed over or transferred, it would result in a significant loss to the state, making their immediate seizure essential.
