A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered the seizure of tax records belonging to Farzana Islam, the former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU), and her husband Md Akhtar Hossain.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The claims include allegations of large-scale recruitment-related financial transactions conducted through her husband, son, and third parties.

A two-member investigation committee, led by ACC Deputy Assistant Director Zakir Hossain, has been formed to probe the matter.

In its application, the ACC expressed concerns that Farzana and her husband might conceal a vast amount of movable and immovable assets.

The commission further stated that, for the sake of a fair investigation, it is necessary to collect and, if required, seize certified copies of all relevant records and information, including the permanent and related files of their tax records.
