Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized contraband and smuggled goods worth Tk183.20 crore during nationwide operations, including border areas, in April 2026.

The border force also arrested 149 smugglers and detained 633 people for illegal border crossing during the drives, the paramilitary force said in a press release.

The seized goods included 3.713 kilograms of gold and 155 grams of diamonds.

BGB also recovered large quantities of textiles and cosmetics, including 17,519 sarees, 3,383 pieces of three-pieces, shirt-pieces, shawls and blankets, 5,116 ready-made garments, 4,553 metres of unstitched fabric, 3,81,464 cosmetic items and 800 pieces of imitation jewellery.

The force intercepted 32,12,035 firecrackers during the month-long operations.

BGB also seized 3,762 cubic feet of timber, 3,787 kilograms of tea leaves, 7,410 kilograms of betel nuts, 7,620 kilograms of coal, 3,583 cubic feet of stone and 10 cubic feet of sand.

In the electronics and medical category, the recovered items included 337 mobile phones, 3,169 mobile displays, 14,099 mobile parts, 24,000 pieces of medical equipment and 16,571 pairs of spectacles.

Food and agricultural items seized during the drives included 59,035 kilograms of cumin, 19,754 kilograms of sugar, 84,255 packets of various food items, 3,954 kilograms of garlic, 3,657 kilograms of fertiliser, 2,139 packets of pesticides and 3,30,369 chocolates.

The BGB also seized 957 cattle and buffaloes.

Vehicles used in smuggling operations were also impounded, including 12 trucks and covered vans, three Mahendra vehicles, 11 pickups, three private cars and buses, six trolleys and microbuses, 44 CNG-run vehicles and easy-bikes, 37 motorcycles and 19 bicycles and vans.

Regarding arms and ammunition, the force recovered six foreign and local pistols, one magazine, 1,725 rounds of ammunition, eight mines, one mortar shell, two hand bombs, two cocktails and two other weapons.

During the operations, 149 smugglers were arrested over trafficking drugs, including Yaba, and other contraband items.

The BGB also detained 86 Bangladeshi nationals, two Indian nationals and 545 Myanmar nationals for illegal border crossing. Legal action has been initiated against all those arrested, the press release added.
