A special confidential directive has been issued from the office of the Police’s Rajshahi Range DIG to the Superintendents of Police (DSB) of eight districts under the range.
In a letter signed on Tuesday by Rajshahi Range DIG Mohammad Shahjahan, specific instructions have been given regarding the re-arrest or “show arrest” of leaders and activists of currently suspended or banned “fascist” organisations after they obtain bail from court.
It stated that special caution must be exercised in the case of influential leaders or workers of fascist organisations who, after being released on bail, have the capacity to reorganise the party or could start political activities at the field level.
Arrangements must be made to have such active and organisationally skilled individuals shown as arrested in any other old or new case pending against them and kept in jail immediately upon receiving bail.
However, the letter mentioned that for workers lacking such organisational influence or the capacity to conduct activities, there is currently no need to show them as re-arrested.
The letter further stated that concerned officials had been alerted about this matter previously through internal police communications. Labeling the matter as extremely sensitive and urgent, instructions have been given to implement it in every district under Rajshahi Range.
Additionally, the DIG has instructed field-level officers to strictly follow existing laws and regulations regarding VIP protocol and protection or security provision.
This directive has been sent to the superintendents of Police of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Natore, Pabna, Sirajganj, Bogura, and Joypurhat districts under the Rajshahi Range.
Sources indicate this step is being taken to maintain law and order and prevent political instability. Meanwhile, following the exposure of this letter, various discussions have begun in political circles regarding new arrests and legal processes.
