A Dhaka court has discharged Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin from a murder case filed over the killing of garments company official Md Sohan Shah during last year’s July Uprising.
On Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order. This information confirmed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DMP Prosecution Division Mia Mohammad Ashish Bin Hasan.
Earlier, on 24 November, the investigation officer – RAB-3 Sub-Inspector Md Mostafizur Rahman – submitted an interim report before the court under the Code of Criminal Procedure, stating that no evidence was found linking Sk Bashir Uddin to the incident. Therefore, the investigating officer requested that he be discharged from the case.
According to the case documents, on 19 July last year, Md Sohan Shah (30) sustained bullet injuries in the Rampura area of the capital and later died on 28 August while undergoing treatment.
The victim’s mother, Sufia Begum, filed a case on 19 September last year, naming former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 57 others as accused, with Sk Bashir Uddin listed as the 49th accused in the case.
