The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 30,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth around Tk 1.5 crore in an anti-drug operation in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The operation was carried out around 1pm on Friday in the Main Road area near Teknaf Upazila Parishad following a tip-off, said Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq.
He said a special team from Coast Guard Station Teknaf conducted the raid and searched a suspicious easy bike in the area. During the search, 30,000 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered.
However, the smugglers managed to flee the scene after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, leaving the vehicle behind. The seized Yaba tablets and easy bike have been taken into custody, and legal action is underway, officials said.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq added that the Coast Guard will continue such operations across coastal regions to prevent drug trafficking and maintain law and order.
