The government has announced that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations will remain closed for six hours daily, from 3pm to 9pm, throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
The measure aims to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to power plants during the evening peak hours, officials said.
Deputy Secretary of the Energy Division Muhammad Nazmul Haque confirmed that the energy division issued a notification regarding the temporary closure on Friday.
He explained that the decision was necessary due to low gas pressure in the distribution network.
According to the notification, the restriction will remain in effect until 14 March.
Following that, from 15 to 25 March, CNG and filling stations will operate 24 hours a day to meet the increased fuel demand on highways during the Eid vacation.
Following Eid-Ul-Fitr, CNG stations will return to normal operations, closing for only three hours daily from 6pm to 9pm starting 26 March.
