Jamaat-e-Islami has officially constituted its new central committee for the 2026–2028 term, reappointing Mia Golam Porwar as the party’s Secretary General.
The new organisational structure, which includes a 59-member Central Shura Committee and an 88-member Central Working Committee, was finalised during a virtual meeting of the Central Majlis-e-Shura on Friday.
This session was presided over by the party’s Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, who was elected to his post on 2 November last year. He also serves as leader of the opposition in Parliament.
While the Shura members participated virtually, the nayeb-e-ameer, secretary general, and assistant secretary generals attended the meeting in person to conduct the election and swearing-in of the central leadership.
Key leadership, regional restructuring
The party has appointed four Naib-e-Amirs, namely ATM Azharul Islam (MP), Professor Mujibur Rahman (MP), Dr Syed Abdullah Md Taher (MP), and Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam.
Supporting the top leadership, seven individuals have been tasked as Assistant Secretary Generals: Maulana ATM Masum, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan (MP), Dr Hamidur Rahman Azad, Maulana Abdul Halim, Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal, Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan, and Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer.
To expedite organisational activities across the country, Jamaat has divided its operations into 14 functional regions, each overseen by a designated Regional Director.
Executive council, female representation
A 21-member Central Executive Council has been established, comprising ATM Azharul Islam (MP), Professor Mujibur Rahman (MP), Dr Syed Abdullah Md Taher (MP), Mia Golam Porwar, Maulana ATM Masum, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan (MP), Dr Hamidur Rahman Azad, Maulana Abdul Halim, Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal, Maulana Muhammad Shahjahan, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, Abdur Rob, Saiful Alam Khan Milon (MP), Principal Md Shahabuddin, Principal Md Izzat Ullah (MP), Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, Md Mobarak Hossain, Md Nurul Islam Bulbul (MP), Mohammad Selim Uddin, Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud (MP), and Dr Mohammad Rezaul Karim.
The party also highlighted significant female representation in its new leadership tiers, noting that 21 women are serving in the 88-member Central Working Committee, while 17 women have been included in the 59-member Central Majlis-e-Shura.
A five-member Central Election Commission has been formed with Maulana ATM Masum as the chief election commissioner, assisted by commissioners Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal, Abdur Rob, Mobarak Hossain, and Maulana AFM Abdus Sattar.
