Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and the Department of Chemical Engineering (DChE) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has inaugurated the IDCOL–DChE, BUET ICS Laboratory.
The event, held at the BUET campus on Tuesday, was attended by Alamgir Morshed, executive director and CEO of IDCOL; Md Enamul Karim Pavel, head of Renewable Energy at IDCOL; Professor Shoeb Ahmed, PhD, head of the Department of Chemical Engineering; and Professor Md Mominur Rahman, PhD, along with faculty members, students, and senior officials from both institutions.
The newly established laboratory is designed to assess particulate and gaseous emissions, energy efficiency, safety, and durability of cookstoves following ISO 19867-1:2018 Harmonized Laboratory Test Protocols for clean cookstoves and clean cooking solutions, read a press release.
The collaboration between IDCOL and BUET aims to develop a globally recognised testing facility in Bangladesh. Once ISO-certified, the lab will also support carbon credit registration for clean cooking projects nationwide.
This initiative represents a major milestone under IDCOL’s Improved Cook Stove (ICS) Programme, which is focused on reducing indoor air pollution, improving public health, and lowering carbon emissions.
Since its launch in 2013, the programme has distributed over four million ICS units across rural households in Bangladesh.
Alamgir Morshed said, “The inauguration of this laboratory signifies a pivotal step towards providing cleaner, safer, and more efficient cooking solutions for countless households. It underscores our dedication to innovation, collaboration, and climate resilience.”
Professor Shoeb Ahmed added, “We take pride in our partnership with IDCOL to establish this vital infrastructure. Beyond testing and certification, the lab will promote research and skill development in clean energy technologies.”
IDCOL reaffirmed its commitment to empowering communities through sustainable energy solutions and expressed its intention to strengthen partnerships with academic institutions, development partners, and the private sector to further advance Bangladesh’s clean energy transition.
