Education Adviser C R Abrar has urged teachers not to engage simultaneously in teaching and politics. He said, “Those who want to do politics may do politics. But do not be involved in politics while being a teacher.”
He made these remarks on Saturday while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled “The role of teachers in improving quality in education management,” organised by the Faridpur Sahitya Parishad.
In his words, “Political partisanship destroys educational institutions.”
Terming the teachers’ raised demands regarding allowances as logical, C R Abrar said, “The welfare fund and retirement allowances are the rightful entitlements of teachers. The bank where their money had been deposited no longer exists. The previous government had very little sense of responsibility regarding these rights of teachers.”
The education adviser also said that the interim government has appointed additional manpower to resolve this problem quickly out of respect for teachers.
Speaking as a special guest at the seminar, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen said, “Teaching is a matter of pride. There is nothing inferior about it. But unfortunately, many of our teachers are sycophantic. They must come out of this practice.”
At the event, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education BM Abdul Hannan said the current government has accepted all logical demands of teachers and will continue to do so in the future. He added, “Even if our students get GPA-5, they are not sufficiently educated. Teachers bear the greatest responsibility for making them truly educated.”
