Bangladesh’s first Women’s BPL has edged closer to kick-off, and Chittagong Pirates have already sorted their dugout. The franchise has locked in Humayun Kabir Shahin and Robiul Islam as part of the coaching staff ahead of the tournament scheduled from 4 to 14 April.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the launch of the women’s franchise league last month. Three teams will contest the inaugural edition, with organisers scrambling to finalise squads, venues and support staff before the opening ball.

Chittagong have moved quickly. The franchise has recruited Shahin and Robiul, two coaches already embedded inside Bangladesh’s women’s national setup. Their presence signals a clear tactical approach: lean on coaches who already understand the national pool of players.

That familiarity could matter. A short tournament demands instant clarity on player roles, field placements and bowling rotations. Coaches who already know the dressing-room personalities can skip the introduction phase and jump straight into strategy.

Chittagong will also operate under a team director who previously captained the Bangladesh women’s side. The franchise clearly wants leadership experience inside the backroom rather than purely technical guidance.

While Chittagong shape their staff, the league itself continues to grow. Two team names have already surfaced , Rajshahi Warriors and Chittagong Pirates, while Rangpur Riders have signalled interest in buying the third franchise slot.

Venue plans have also expanded. Organisers initially pencilled Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium and Chattogram’s Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium into the schedule. Officials have now added Bogura’s Shaheed Chandu Stadium to the list, with the opening match likely to launch there.

The player draft now sits on the immediate horizon. BCB plans to stage the draft on 14 March, where franchises will build squads around three national-team icons.

Those marquee slots belong to Nigar Sultana Joty, Nahida Akter and Sobhana Mostary. Each icon will lead a franchise and collect a maximum salary of ten lakh taka.
