Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has said that China continues to support Bangladesh’s development while pursuing the welfare of its own people.
Speaking on Friday at the Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium, the BNP leader highlighted his close relationship with the Chinese Ambassador and noted having visited China twice.
He was addressing a programme organised by China-Bangladesh Friendship to distribute school bags and gifts among local students.
“I thank the Chinese Ambassador. I have invited him to Thakurgaon today as we wish to work together for the development of this district,” Fakhrul said. He added that China plans to send a delegation within the next one to two years, showing interest in establishing industries and undertaking various development projects in the region.
Emphasising investment in youth, Fakhrul said children must receive more than basic schooling. “They must be developed in such a way that they become national assets. If they can stand on their own feet, the country will progress further,” he added.
The event was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, Rafiqul Haque, Deputy Commissioner, Belal Hossain, Superintendent of Police, and Mirza Faisal Amin, President of the District BNP, among other officials.
School bags and educational materials were distributed to approximately 6,500 students from across the district during the ceremony.
