A reported attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push 12 people into Bangladesh through Pragpur border in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia was foiled following resistance from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents.
Local sources said the attempt took place on Friday morning through an area of the Pragpur border. The 12 people are currently staying near the Indian border area.
They comprise four women, four men and four children.
Local residents stationed along the border said they are working with BGB to maintain round-the-clock vigilance. They also said they will not allow any illegal entry into Bangladesh.
BGB personnel used loudspeakers to issue warnings along the border. Patrols have been intensified across the area to prevent illegal entry. Additional forces have been deployed at 14 border outposts (BOPs) in the Daulatpur border region.
Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, commanding officer of 47 BGB Battalion, said routine patrols and surveillance have been strengthened along the border.
He said BSF has been attempting push-ins at different times during night hours. He also said border lights were switched off during some of these attempts.
He added that BGB had repeatedly called for flag meetings over the incidents, but BSF has not responded positively so far.
The repeated attempts have triggered concern and panic among residents of border villages in Daulatpur.
BGB said operations and surveillance will continue to prevent any form of illegal intrusion along the border.
