China’s support for Bangladesh will remain unchanged despite shifts in the global landscape, and Beijing will not waver in its commitment to the overall direction of bilateral ties, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said on Thursday.

The ambassador quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping as saying, “No matter how the world changes, China will not waver in its commitment to the overall direction of China-Bangladesh friendly relations and will always be a trustworthy friend, good neighbour and good partner of Bangladesh.”

Yao Wen was briefing journalists on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to China, during which he met President Xi and held bilateral talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

He said that at a time when unilateralism and power politics are on the rise and regional and international uncertainties are increasing, China-Bangladesh relations have stood the test of time over the past five decades and continue to demonstrate strong resilience and promising momentum.

He noted that the visit had injected fresh momentum into bilateral relations, with the leaders of the two countries holding candid and productive discussions and reaching important new consensus.

“The meetings sent a clear message of stronger communication, deeper mutual trust and closer cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
