Mokarram Hossain Khoka, convener of the Mithamoin upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), has been expelled on charges of breaching organisational discipline. The move followed the killing of local BNP leader Zahedul Alam Jahangir.
According to a press release signed by Organising Secretary Rahat Islam Sagor on Saturday, Khoka has been relieved of all organisational responsibilities, including his primary membership.
The decision was approved by Kishoreganj District Chhatra Dal President Shariful Islam Nishad and General Secretary Rafiul Islam Naushad.
Jahangir, president of the Mithamoin upazila BNP, was killed in a planned armed attack in front of his residence on the night of 15 July. Investigators said the assault lasted less than a minute.
Relatives and local BNP leaders allege that three assailants arrived from Dhaka three days before the incident and stayed at a house belonging to Khoka’s elder brother, located about 500 feet from Jahangir’s home.
They further claim the attackers had been released on bail from Kashimpur Central Jail specifically for the mission, and believe Khoka holds key information about the planners, financiers, and collaborators. Khoka and his family have reportedly gone into hiding since the murder.
The victim’s wife, Taslima Akter Chowdhury, filed a case late Friday night with Mithamoin Police Station, naming three individuals and accusing 15 others. The named accused are Md Helal, 24, of Barguna; Mahin Uddin, 32; and Md Shahin Alam alias Shakil, 27, both from Lakshmipur.
Police have arrested five suspects so far, including the three named in the case and two locals — Zakir Hossain, 40, and Abdur Rauf, 67.
On Sunday, Senior Judicial Magistrate Sangita Bhattacharya granted a five‑day remand for all five suspects, after Mithamoin Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Monowar Hossain had initially sought seven days.
Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
