Ten-man Barcelona suffered their second Champions League loss of the campaign as Chelsea delivered a commanding performance at Stamford Bridge.

Ferran Torres squandered a golden early chance in London, and from that point Barcelona were pushed firmly onto the back foot. Chelsea had the ball in the net twice before the opener – both ruled out for handball and offside – but they finally broke through when Jules Koundé diverted a corner into his own goal.

Barcelona rarely threatened a response and their task became significantly more difficult when Ronald Araújo, already booked, lunged into a challenge on Marc Cucurella. Referee Slavko Vinčić had little option but to brandish a second yellow card, leaving the visitors with ten men.

Chelsea quickly made the numerical advantage count. Ten minutes into the second half, Estevão drifted away from a weak Pau Cubarsí challenge and fired in from close range, giving Joan García no chance and doubling the home side’s lead.

Things deteriorated further for Barcelona on 73 minutes. Enzo Fernández broke behind the defence and squared for Liam Delap to tap in. Though the flag initially went up, VAR confirmed the goal and Chelsea’s 3–0 advantage.

Missing the influence of star midfielder Pedri, Barcelona looked disjointed and rarely in control at any stage. Ferran’s early miss might have changed the complexion of the match, but the overall display leaves Hansi Flick with considerable issues to address following a convincingly one-sided defeat.
