Police have submitted charge sheets in 106 cases filed over incidents during the July mass uprising last year, according to a statement released by the police headquarters on Tuesday.
Of the cases submitted to court so far, 31 involve murder charges, while the remaining 75 fall under various other criminal sections.
The 31 murder cases were filed in the districts of Pabna, Sirajganj, Bogura, Dhaka, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Chandpur, Feni, Kurigram and Sherpur, as well as under the Police Bureau of Investigation, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Chattogram Metropolitan Police and Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The 75 other cases originate from Pabna, Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Bogura, Dhaka, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Tangail, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Sherpur, Jamalpur, Mymensingh and Barguna, in addition to cases investigated by the PBI, CID and the metropolitan police units of Dhaka, Barishal, Rajshahi, Chattogram and Rangpur.
Senior police officials are supervising the investigations to ensure proper handling of all cases filed during the uprising. Police said efforts are underway to complete inquiries into the remaining cases and bring those responsible to justice.
Additionally, under Section 173 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, investigation reports have been submitted in 437 anti-discrimination cases, leading to the discharge of 2,830 individuals to date.
