Bus services on Chandpur-Cumilla route have been suspended indefinitely following allegations of attacks on workers of the passenger bus services, Bogdad and Aidi Paribahan.
The strike, which began on Thursday morning, was called by transport workers demanding safety and protesting the violence.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday night in Balakhal Bazar area of Hajiganj municipality.
Unidentified miscreants reportedly launched a sudden attack on workers who were staying in buses parked at a local school field.
Workers claimed that at least 15 buses were vandalised and approximately 10 workers were injured during the assault.
Some of the injured have received local medical treatment. Yusuf, a supervisor for Bogdad Paribahan, stated that the incident has spread panic among the workers and demanded that the perpetrators be identified and brought to justice immediately.
The sudden halt in bus services has caused significant suffering for passengers. However, bus operations on other routes across the country remain normal.
Hajiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Abdul Mannan confirmed that police visited the scene on Wednesday night after being informed of the incident. He said the situation is currently normal and a formal investigation is underway.
Chandpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ahmed Ziaur Rahman said the administration is fully aware of the matter. He assured that a meeting with all stakeholders would be convened shortly to resolve the issue.
