The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) on Tuesday announced a Tk2,260.24 crore budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year, placing strong emphasis on tackling the city’s persistent waterlogging crisis and mosquito menace.
Mayor Shahadat Hossain unveiled the budget during a session held at the Theatre Institute Auditorium in the port city. On the same occasion, the revised budget for the outgoing 2025–26 fiscal year was finalised at Tk1,665.92 crore, down from its original Tk2,145.42 crore.
Presenting his budget speech, the mayor reiterated his vision of transforming Chattogram into a “clean, green, healthy and safe city”, while acknowledging that strengthening the city corporation’s financial base remains crucial to meeting rising urban demands.
He stressed the need to boost internal revenue generation as part of a broader move towards financial self-reliance.
Under the proposed budget, the CCC has set a revenue target of Tk1,197.62 crore from its own sources, including Tk811.90 crore from holding tax alone. In addition, the corporation expects Tk975 crore in development assistance from the government.
On the expenditure side, Tk1,035 crore has been allocated for the development sector, which will cover six major projects, road construction, and renovation works across the city.
Given long-standing civic challenges, the mayor increased allocations for key services. Tk112 crore has been earmarked to address waterlogging—almost double the previous allocation—while mosquito control funding has been raised sharply to Tk25 crore from Tk5.38 crore in the last fiscal year.
A total of Tk827.97 crore has been allocated for operating and maintenance costs, including Tk480.85 crore for salaries and allowances of officials and employees. The budget also sets aside Tk184 crore for repayment of outstanding loans.
CCC Acting Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Ashraful Amin and Chief Accounts Officer Md Humayun Kabir Chowdhury were present at the budget session.
