Police have registered a case against National Citizen Party (NCP) chief organiser Nasiruddin Patwary, Sarjis Alam, and eight other party leaders and activists over an alleged attack on Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders in Habiganj.
Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station recorded the first information report (FIR) on Sunday evening following a complaint filed by a JCD leader, police said.
Earlier on Thursday night, Habiganj district JCD joint general secretary Iqbal Hossain Rukon filed the complaint, naming 10 people, including Nasiruddin Patwary and Sarjis Alam, as accused.
The complaint also accused 50 unidentified individuals.
According to the case statement, JCD leaders and activists had gathered in front of the Court Mosque area in Habiganj municipality on Tuesday to attend a mourning programme and meet the family of July uprising martyr Ripon Shil as part of a central JCD programme.
The complaint alleged that NCP activists attacked the JCD members with local weapons during the gathering. It further claimed that the attackers assaulted JCD leaders and took away four iPhones and cash.
Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahid Hossain confirmed that the case had been registered based on the complaint.
The allegations brought in the case could not be independently verified. No immediate reaction from NCP leaders, including Nasiruddin Patwary and Sarjis Alam, was available.
