Popular content creator Nuruzzaman Kafi, his father and elder brother have been sued over allegations of land grabbing and extortion.
The case was filed on Sunday at the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Kalapara by Abdur Rahim, acting headteacher of Khepupara Government Model Secondary School.
The court accepted the case and ordered Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam to investigate the allegations and submit a report.
According to the case statement, around 10:15am on 11 July, Nuruzzaman Kafi from Rajpara village in Kalapara, along with his father ABM Habibur Rahman and elder brother Mamun, entered the land owned by Khepupara Government Model Secondary School with an excavator, van, shovels and brick chips.
The complaint alleges that they dug up soil from the school’s land in Rajpara mouza under BS Khatian No. 12 and BS Dag No. 59, changed the shape of the land and attempted to build a road.
After receiving the news, acting headteacher Abdur Rahim reached the spot with five assistant teachers and tried to stop the work.
The case alleges that Kafi demanded Tk10 lakh in extortion money from the headteacher. It also claims that after the demand was refused, he behaved aggressively with the teachers and threatened them.
The complainant further alleged that the accused removed soil from around six per cent of land, measuring approximately 110 feet in length and 30 feet in width, and placed small stones to construct a road. The complaint claims the school suffered losses of around Tk5 lakh.
Abdur Rahim said Khepupara Government Model Secondary School owns a total of 21.76 acres of land in BS JL No. 9, Rajpara mouza, including plots under BS Khatian No. 12 and BS Dag Nos. 59, 205, 206, 207, 208, 283, 306, 344, 345, 349 and 1115.
He said the institution has been peacefully occupying the land for a long time and has maintained its boundaries, including government khas land.
Rahim added that he tried to resolve the matter locally after the incident, but Kafi and his family members did not agree to a settlement.
“I went to Kalapara Police Station to file the case, but the authorities advised me to seek legal action through the court. I have filed the case there and seek justice to protect the school’s land,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kafi denied the allegations, calling them false, baseless and motivated.
He claimed that the legal heirs of the land had won a case after a long legal battle at the Supreme Court and that he purchased the land from them through a sale agreement.
Kafi said the landowners handed over possession to him before he started constructing the road.
“I have never met Abdur Rahim face-to-face or spoken to him. The allegations brought against me are completely false and fabricated. A fair investigation will reveal the truth,” he said.
Kalapara Senior Judicial Court bench assistant Md Ferdous Mia confirmed that the court accepted the case and directed the Kalapara police OC to investigate and submit a report.
