Special Assistant to the chief adviser Md Khuda Baksh Chowdhury resigned on Wednesday.
“His resignation has been accepted by the president,” a gazette notification reads, adding, “It will take immediate effect.
On 10 November 2024, Chowdhury was appointed special assistant, with the status equivalent to a state minister, to interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. He was given executive power over the Ministry of Home Affairs.
His resignation comes amid a fragile law and order and security situation across the country, and calls for the resignation of the Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and the Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, following the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
On 12 December, Hadi – a prospective candidate of Dhaka-8 constituency – was shot in the head while travelling in a rickshaw on Culvert Road in Purana Paltan. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later admitted to Evercare Hospital.
Hadi later died while under treatment in Singapore on 18 December.
