Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Muhammad Sanaullah stated on Saturday that candidates must win through legitimate votes this time, asserting there is no room for any unfair or fraudulent methods.
He made these remarks as the chief guest during a view-exchange meeting with the Law and Order Cell and Vigilance Team at the Bhola Deputy Commissioner’s conference room.
Urging all officials to maintain strict neutrality, EC Sanaullah emphasised that the Election Commission has not issued any biased instructions to date and will not do so in the future.
He warned that the commission would be “terribly tough” on any individual involved in the election process who fails to rise above personal preferences or loses their impartiality.
The Election Commissioner directed law enforcement agencies to discharge their duties with absolute firmness.
He stressed that factors such as fear, terror, or mobs must not deter them from their responsibilities.
Sanaullah further instructed them to work with transparency and ensure that polling stations remain favourable for voters.
Highlighting the broader significance of the polls, Sanaullah noted that the election is not merely about returning to democracy or organising the democratic process.
He stated that the nation’s international image, global standing, business, trade, investment, and employment are all tied to this election. Furthermore, social stability and law and order are intrinsically linked to the process, making it far more than just a “routine” election.
The meeting was attended by Bhola Deputy Commissioner Shamim Rahman, Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah Kawsar, assistant returning officers, officers-in-charge (OC) of various police stations, and top-level district officials.
