Police have detained a candidate for attempting to cheat with an electronic device during the assistant teacher recruitment examination in Gaibandha.

The detainee has been identified as Parimal Sarker.

The incident took place on Friday at Darul Huda Alim Madrasha examination centre in Gaibandha town.

Invigilators and law enforcement officers became suspicious during the exam and searched the candidate. They recovered a small voice communication device hidden on his body.

Police detained him after confirming the incident. News of the detention sparked commotion among candidates at the centre.

Examination officials said authorities had imposed strict security measures to ensure a transparent recruitment test. Part of that effort focused on preventing the use of technological devices for cheating.

Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun said the candidate will face legal action. He said police will produce him before court after questioning.
