FIFA President sent a message of condolence to Mr Tabith Awal, president of the Bangladesh Football Federation, expressing deep sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
In his message, the FIFA President highlighted Begum Khaleda Zia’s significance in Bangladesh’s political history, noting her role as the country’s first female prime minister and the lasting legacy she left for future generations.
Speaking on behalf of the international football community, he extended heartfelt sympathy to the government of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Football Federation, and the people of the country.
The Bangladesh Football Federation expressed sincere gratitude to FIFA and the wider international football community for their condolences.
On 30 December, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia passed away while receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. She was 80 years old.
The following day, her funeral was held on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital, attended by hundreds of thousands of mourners shedding tears of grief. On the same day, she was laid to rest beside the grave of her husband, the martyred President Ziaur Rahman. During her 44-year political career, she served as the country’s Prime Minister three times.
