Canada trail Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 at half-time at BMO Field after Jovo Lukić scored from Bosnia’s first major chance of the match.
Jesse Marsch’s side controlled possession for most of the opening 45 minutes and attacked aggressively through the wings, especially down Tajon Buchanan’s flank. Canada moved the ball quickly and forced Bosnia deep into their own half after conceding, but poor finishing and ineffective set pieces kept the hosts behind.
Bosnia struck in the 21st minute from a corner. Sead Kolašinac made a clever near-post flick and Lukić headed home from close range for his first international goal. The visitors have looked organised since then and defended Canada’s crosses comfortably.
Jonathan David created Canada’s best early opening, while Tani Oluwaseyi wasted a huge chance after cutting inside in the penalty area and firing over the bar. Canada also won several corners through Kamal Miller and Alistair Johnston, although Bosnia cleared most deliveries without serious trouble.
Bosnia have created very little in open play, but their defensive structure and physical approach continue to frustrate the hosts. Canada now need sharper finishing and quicker movement around the box in the second half.
