Bangladesh’s coastal regions, particularly Satkhira, are among the most vulnerable areas to the impacts of climate change. Cyclones, floods, salinity intrusion and river erosion have severely affected the lives and livelihoods of people in these areas.
Among those most affected are adolescent girls and young women, who face numerous challenges in health and safety alongside their education.
A discussion to ensure climate-resilient health protection for women and adolescent girls in Padmapukur Union was held on Saturday where Shah Israt Azmery, chairperson of Children Watch Foundation, was present as the chief guest.
Children Watch Foundation treasurer Afroza Akter, Chandnimaikha MM Secondary School headmaster Mohsin Hossain, Gabura Gopal Laxmi Memorial Secondary School headmaster SM Yasminur Rahman Lincoln and Pakhimara Aminia Women’s Madrasa assistant teacher Mawlana Azmal Hossain were also present.
At the event, the speakers highlighted various aspects of ensuring climate-resilient health protection for women and adolescent girls in coastal areas as they stressed that raising awareness among women and adolescent girls is crucial for ensuring their health protection.
In her address, Israt Azmery emphasised that ensuring climate-resilient health protection for women and adolescent girls will lead to the creation of a new society.
She urged women and adolescent girls to take the lead in raising public awareness on this important issue.
