Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and widespread damage caused by Friday’s earthquake, which rattled several districts and led to building collapses and other related incidents.
Officials confirmed that at least five people, including a child, have died, while close to a hundred others suffered injuries.
Among the injured are students of Dhaka University, factory workers in Gazipur, and residents of Narsingdi, the epicenter of the quake.
In an official condolence statement, Muhammad Yunus prayed for the victims and extended heartfelt sympathy to their families. He also wished the injured a swift recovery.
The chief adviser instructed all relevant government agencies to strengthen rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas.
He noted that the government is maintaining close oversight of the situation and is working to compile a full assessment of the damage.
He expressed hope that the nation would respond to this moment of crisis with resilience, patience, and collective resolve.
