Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set for a packed schedule on Tuesday, the second day of his New York visit, with at least 10 events on his agenda, including participation in the opening of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Prof Yunus will start the day at a welcome reception hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
He will then join the inaugural UNGA session from 9am to 10am, accompanied by Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan and SDG Affairs Principal Coordinator Lamiya Morshed.
His itinerary also features a meeting with the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) at 10:30am, followed by talks with the World Bank President at 11am. At 11:30am, Prof Yunus will meet Queen Máxima of the Netherlands.
Later, at 12:30pm, the chief adviser will attend the “Fashion for Development: 13th Annual Official First Ladies Luncheon”.
At 2:45pm, he is scheduled to take part in a high-level meeting titled “Mobilizing Financing through Social Innovation”, bringing together leaders from both public and private sectors.
In the evening, Prof Yunus will attend a reception hosted by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at 7pm.
Prof Yunus arrived in New York on Monday afternoon aboard an Emirates Airlines flight, which landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport at 3pm (local time).
On the first day of his visit, the chief adviser held several high-profile meetings on the sidelines of the UN events. He met Belgium’s Queen Mathilde, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at the UN headquarters.
