A passenger bus traveling on the Jashore-Narail Highway caught fire in Fatepur area of Jashore town on Friday afternoon, but all passengers managed to escape unharmed.
The incident occurred around 4:30pm when the ‘Narail Express’ bus, carrying over fifty passengers from Monihar, Jashore to Dhaka, caught an engine fire about 10 kilometers from its starting point.
Eyewitnesses said the fire spread rapidly, prompting passengers to evacuate through doors and windows in a panic.
A video circulating on social media shows the bus engulfed in flames. Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control within approximately 30 minutes.
Jashore Kotwali Police Inspector (Investigation) Kazi Babul Islam said the driver had reported a mechanical fault before departure, but the bus was allowed to continue its journey to Dhaka following the owner’s decision.
“The incident is under investigation. If any negligence or violation is found, appropriate legal action will be taken,” he added. No casualties were reported, and all passengers are safe.
