Police have recovered the bullet-riddled body of a young man from a fish enclosure in Daulatpur upazila of Khulna city.
The deceased was identified as Omar Faruk Rabbi, 32, son of Shah Alam of the Jabdipur area under Khan Jahan Ali Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station Muradul Islam said local residents spotted the body in the enclosure on Saturday afternoon in Maheshwarpasha Pashchim Para Khutir Ghat area and informed police. Officers later recovered the body from the scene.
Police suspect the killing may have arisen from a dispute related to drug trading.
The deceased was allegedly involved in drug dealing and was known locally as a yaba trader, according to police.
The OC said the murder likely took place at some point on Friday night, when unidentified assailants shot Rabbi and dumped his body in the fish enclosure.
Bullet marks were found on his head and chest.
Police said Rabbi had been living for a long time in a rented house in the Mostor Mor area, while his ancestral home is in Satkhira district.
The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.
