India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over 16 Bangladeshis, including men, women, and children, at the Taluigacha border in Satkhira.
The handover took place around 6:30pm on Saturday during a flag meeting at the zero point of the Taluigacha border, where the 16 individuals were transferred to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The individuals include Mosharraf Dhali (57), Muslima Khatun (29), Yunus Ali (42), daughter Sinha Khatun (11), Morsalim Gazi (7), Zillur Rahman (23) Zhorna Parveen (37), Ashikuzzaman (18), Rifath Hossain (26), Shahinuzzaman (28) Sharmin Sultana (18) Sumaiya Akter (3), Fatima Khatun (22), Farzan Nabil (3), Rubina Khatun (29), and Al Amin (26).
The BGB reported that the BSF detained these individuals while they were crossing the Hakimpur check-post in India on Friday night. On the following evening, BSF’s Amudia Company Commander Inspector Bikash Kumar and BGB’s Taluigacha Commander Abul Kashem facilitated their handover. After the transfer, BGB Commander Abul Kashem filed a General Diary (GD) at Satkhira Sadar police station.
Two of the returnees, Mosharraf Dhali and Yunus Ali, explained that they had been working as laborers in various areas of West Bengal for a long time. Due to increasing crackdowns, they decided to surrender to the BSF.
Shaminul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, stated that the 16 returnees will be handed over to their relatives after identity verification on Sunday.
Earlier, on 15th, 18th, 21st, and 24th September, the BSF had also returned 48 Bangladeshis via flag meetings at the same border.
