Two men have been detained in connection with the death of a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly raped at a hotel in Kaliakair,Gazipur.
Her body was recovered on Friday.
According to police, the suspects, Mominul Islam Mohon, 22, and Atikur Rahman, 23, took the girl to a hotel where she was allegedly raped by Mominul.
After attempts to treat her at a local pharmacy failed, the suspects took her to Kumudini Medical College Hospital in Mirzapur, Tangail.
She was being transferred to Dhaka upon doctors’ advice but she died early Friday morning.The ambulance driver alerted Mirzapur police.
Mominul is from Uttar Sajuria, Bagmara, Rajshahi, and Atikur is from Nimaichura, Chatmohar, Pabna.
Police said both worked at a garment factory in Ashulia, Savar, and Mominul had been in a three-year relationship with the victim.
Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Kaliakair Police Station, confirmed the arrests and said, “The body was sent to Tangail Sadar Hospital morgue for postmortem examination.”
