Allegations of two Bangladeshi youths being beaten to death have surfaced at the Wahedpur border in Chapainawabganj; however, it is known that the two youths have been missing for the past three days.
The incident occurred around 2am on Sunday night in the area between international border pillars 76 and 77 at the Wahedpur border in Shibganj upazila.
The deceased are: Ibrahim Rinku (28), son of late Majibur Rahman from Gaipara village, Durlovpur Union, Shibganj upazila, and Momin Mia (29), son of Aminul Islam from Shyampur village, Panka Union.
While BGB has not confirmed the matter, local representatives and local sources claim that they were beaten to death and thrown into the Padma River by BSF. Panka UP member Rafiq Uddin stated that he has heard locally that after the two were beaten to death, their bodies were thrown into the Padma River.
Locals said that around 2 AM on Sunday, a group of 4/5 people went to the border near the Wahedpur BOP of Bangladesh to bring cattle. At that time, members of India’s Nimtita BSF camp beat Rinku and Momin to death and set their bodies adrift in the Padma River. Later, they learned through various sources that the two detainees were brutally beaten to death and thrown into the Padma River by members of India’s Nimtita 71 BSF camp.
On the other hand, the families of the missing persons have expressed their inability to provide any information on the matter. Until the writing of this report, the two missing individuals had not returned home.
Two neighbors of Momin, on condition of anonymity, citing their Indian relatives, said that they were beaten to death and their bodies were set adrift in the Padma. Fearing legal complications or harassment, no one is willing to speak about it publicly.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mostafizur Rahman, Commanding Officer of the Chapainawabganj 53 BGB Battalion, said, “We have also heard such things but have not been able to confirm it so far. Although contacted, the families of the missing persons have not made any complaint. Several contacts have been made with BSF regarding this matter, but they have denied such allegations.”
He stated that they are working on the matter.
