A two-day special workshop on the regulatory framework for commodity derivatives was held on 19-20 September 2025 at Best Western Hotel in Dhaka.
The event, organized by Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE), was for officials from the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), according to a CSE press release.
BSEC Executive Director Md Anwarul Islam inaugurated the workshop, with CSE Managing Director M Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar delivering the welcome address.
Mazumdar highlighted the importance of a commodity exchange in driving market dynamism and praised BSEC’s role in establishing Bangladesh’s first exchange.
“The team at CSE has been working tirelessly to set up the commodity exchange, with nearly complete work in structural, technical, and regulatory aspects. We are now preparing for mock trading and ensuring market participants are ready,” he said.
He further added that Disfintech, a UK-based firm, had been hired to verify the system’s effectiveness, expressing confidence in the timely launch of the commodity exchange through the joint efforts of CSE and BSEC.
BSEC Executive Director Md Anwarul Islam acknowledged the special initiative by CSE in establishing the exchange and emphasized the importance of knowledge-sharing through the workshop.
“This workshop provides a detailed understanding of the commodity exchange and is essential for its successful launch,” he said, expressing hope for the rapid commencement of operations.
Key participants included BSEC Directors Md Abul Kalam and Sheikh Mahbub Ur Rahman, along with Additional Directors Md Lutful Kabir and Mohammad Emdadul Haque.
Also present were CSE General Manager Md Monirul Haque, Convenor of the Commodity Exchange Project Md Mortuza Alam, and AGM Md Faisal Huda.
