A day-long cultural programme will be held on April 19 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), spotlighting the creative journey of actor and filmmaker Tauquir Ahmed through a curated mix of discussion, screening and stage performance.
Organised by Suhrid, the event titled Titled ‘Chhoy Doshok Periye Tauquir Ahmed’ brings together artists, writers and cultural figures to reflect on Ahmed’s contribution to theatre, television and cinema. Rather than marking a milestone in years, the initiative positions itself as a broader exploration of his artistic evolution and influence.
One of the country’s most prominent creative figures, Ahmed’s filmography includes acclaimed titles such as ‘Joyjatra’, ‘Daruchini Dwip’, ‘Rupkothar Golpo’, ‘Oggatonama’ and ‘Fagun Haway’.
His work has earned recognition both locally and internationally, with Oggatonama selected as Bangladesh’s official entry for the Academy Awards.
The programme will begin with a seminar titled ‘Our Culture and the Responsibility of the Artiste’, bringing together perspectives from across the cultural community.
Filmmaker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury has written on Tauquir Ahmed’s work in cinema, while playwright Masum Reza and writer Rummaan Rashid Khan have offered reflections on his contributions to theatre and television.
A screening of Oggatonama will be followed by an evening stage presentation titled ‘Tirthajatra’, directed and performed by Ahmed himself.
Organisers said the initiative aims to revisit and reassess the breadth of his creative output, while encouraging younger artists to engage with his body of work.
The event will run from morning to night and has been supported by Actors Equity Bangladesh.
