The British Council will release Bangladesh’s first comprehensive mapping of its film industry in December 2025, providing insights into the sector’s economic, cultural and developmental potential in a landmark study.
Conducted by Dhaka DocLab and led by Dr Imran Firdaus, the study examines the country’s film ecosystem and offers policy recommendations to promote sustainable and inclusive growth. Research, which began in February, drew on nationwide surveys and consultations with producers, independent filmmakers, cinema owners and students. The final report will include a sector map, policy review and practical guidance for stakeholders.
Maarya Rehman, Deputy Director of the British Council in Bangladesh, described the study as “an important step in understanding how Bangladesh’s film sector can unlock its full economic potential.”
Dhaka DocLab Director Tareq Ahmed noted it comes at a pivotal moment for the industry, while Dr Firdaus highlighted the country’s significant creative capacity.
