Bridge Division and Bangladesh Bridge Authority will observe July Uprising Day 2026 on Wednesday with prayers, free public access to museums, educational programmes and commemorative activities.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, day-long programmes will be held at BBA site offices, rehabilitation areas and masjids at project sites to mark the occasion.
Special prayers were held after Zuhr prayers on Tuesday at Setu Bhaban Mosque and at mosques in Bridge Authority facilities, site offices, rehabilitation areas and project sites.
‘Prayers were offered for those killed in the Liberation War in 1971, victims of enforced disappearances and killings over the past 17 years, those killed during the July uprising and the recovery of those injured’, said the press release.
Jamuna Bridge and Padma Bridge museums will remain open to the public free of charge on Wednesday from morning until evening. Recreational facilities under Bridge Authority will also be open to children free of charge.
Bridge Authority will organise essay, recitation and drawing competitions at educational institutions in rehabilitation areas near its project sites.
Discussions on the significance of the day and prize-giving ceremonies for winners will also be held.
Electronic display boards at toll plazas on bridges under BBA will display messages marking the day. Roads, traffic islands and toll plazas under the authority have also been decorated with national flags, banners, festoons and commemorative placards.
Bridge Division Secretary and Bridge Authority Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf paid tribute to those killed during the July uprising and expressed sympathy for those injured.
