World Cup-winning Brazilian legend Cafu is set to visit Dhaka for a two-day trip in December, organisers confirmed on Friday.
The iconic right-back, who captained Brazil to the 2002 FIFA World Cup title, will attend the prize-giving ceremony of the much-anticipated Latin Bangla Super Cup 2025, scheduled to take place at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka from 5 to 11 December.
The tournament will feature three teams, representing Argentina, Brazil and Bangladesh, in what organisers describe as a celebration of Latin American football heritage and Bangladesh’s growing passion for the sport.
Details of Cafu’s visit and the tournament were announced at a press conference held at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka. The event was chaired by Md Asaduzzaman, managing director of AF Boxing Promotions International, with Bangladesh Football Federation’s technical committee chairman Kamrul Hasan Hilton, promoter Mehedi Hasan Badhon, and other officials in attendance.
Organisers said Cafu’s presence as the special guest will be the biggest attraction of the event, hoping his visit will inspire young Bangladeshi footballers. They also revealed that the Argentina team will be accompanied by a former international star, who will serve as the team’s ambassador.
Under the slogan “Where the Magic Happens”, the Latin Bangla Super Cup aims to blend the flair of Latin American football with Bangladesh’s own sporting enthusiasm. Bangladesh will be represented by a high-performance side featuring some of the country’s best young players, while the Argentina and Brazil teams will feature club-level squads.
The week-long event will also include fan zones, live musical performances and merchandise stalls to create a festive atmosphere for supporters.
