Rezaul Karim Badsha, the candidate nominated by BNP, has secured a landslide victory in the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency by-election. He was unofficially declared elected after receiving more than double the votes of his nearest rival from Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to the District Election Commission, Badsha, contesting with the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol for Bogura-6, polled 1,33,931 votes across all 151 polling centres, including postal ballots. His nearest competitor, Abidur Rahman Sohel of Jamaat-e-Islami, received 57,159 votes.
These figures were officially announced by the Returning Officer’s office on Thursday night. EC officials further confirmed that the voter turnout for this by-election stood at 43 percent.
Voting began on Thursday morning and continued until 4:30pm, after which the counting of votes commenced at the respective centres and results were gradually sent to the Returning Officer’s office.
The local administration stated that security measures had been bolstered throughout the city to ensure a peaceful environment.
