BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has alleged that a specific political party is seeking strategies to avoid participating in the upcoming elections while attempting to make the process questionable.

Speaking at an view exchange held in the capital’s Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre on Saturday, he asserted that BNP would not provide such an opportunity nor allow any conspiracy to succeed.

The meeting was organised by “Mayer Daak” and “Amra BNP Poribar” for the families of victims of enforced disappearances, murders, and state-sponsored persecution.

Addressing the postponement of Tarique Rahman’s scheduled tour of North Bengal, Salahuddin explained that BNP suspended the programme at the request of the Election Commission (EC) to maintain peace.

However, he noted that certain political parties and the EC itself have misconstrued this gesture of “politeness” as a sign of weakness.

“They are looking for various tactics to withdraw from the election, but we will not give them that chance,” Salahuddin stated, adding that the ultimate goal of these parties is to challenge the acceptability of the polls.

He further urged the families and supporters present to remain vigilant against any form of electoral conspiracy.
