BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday outlined his party’s key election pledges, including waiving agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 with interest and creating large-scale employment for educated unemployed youth, if the party came to power.

Speaking at an election campaigning programme in Kazipara under Mohammadpur Union of Thakurgaon-1 constituency in the morning, Mirza Fakhrul said family cards would be issued to mothers, while farmers would receive agriculture cards to ensure support and protection.

He said the BNP planned to create employment opportunities for one crore educated unemployed people within 18 months. Peace and discipline would be restored, he added, and people of all religions would be able to live peacefully in the country.

During his speech, the BNP leader also accused a political group of spreading lies to mislead voters by exploiting religious sentiments during the election campaign.

He said some people were misleading mothers and sisters by falsely claiming that voting for a particular symbol would ensure entry to heaven.

“Allah has never said that voting for any symbol will take someone to heaven. One can go to heaven only by following Allah’s instructions,” Mirza Fakhrul said, adding that such falsehoods were being deliberately spread to create confusion among voters.

He further said there would always be attempts by some quarters to obstruct the election, but no one would be able to stop it this time.

“People of the country have awakened. This time, we will vote,” he said.
