BNP on Friday launched a cleanup drive along the July 36 Expressway, popularly known as the 300-feet road, following a large public gathering addressed by its acting chairman Tarique Rahman in the capital’s Purbachal area.

The initiative is being carried out by the BNP’s Dhaka North City unit through voluntary efforts. Cleaning work began in the morning, particularly in front of the stage set up for the programme, where large amounts of waste were found scattered after the event.

The cleanup operation involves BNP activists, workers from the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and around 300 hired cleaning staff. Sixteen trucks have been deployed to transport the waste quickly.

The programme is being supervised by Aminul Haque, convener of the Dhaka North BNP. DNCC cleaning staff are also assisting in restoring cleanliness to the area.

Earlier on Thursday night, the BNP media cell said the party would remove waste generated along the July 36 Expressway, Airport Road and adjoining areas following the public gathering. The party also announced plans to plant new trees to replace those damaged during the event.
