BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday pledged to build a merit-based, technology-driven modern Bangladesh if the party is voted to power.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally in the Surajpur area of Surajpur–Manikpur union in Chakaria upazila, saying the country’s future would be shaped by the aspirations of the youth and people from all walks of life.
Describing the BNP as the party of independence and the Liberation War, Salahuddin Ahmed said it had played a key role in protecting and institutionalising democracy, including introducing multi-party politics, the parliamentary system and the caretaker government system.
He also claimed the BNP had delivered significant progress in national development and women’s advancement, citing the political legacy of Ziaur Rahman and the democratic struggle led by Khaleda Zia.
Urging voters to support the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol, he said a BNP-led government would pursue planned development in Chakaria through consultations with all stakeholders.
Chakaria Upazila BNP President Enamul Haque, General Secretary M Mobarak Ali, and local party leaders and activists also attended the rally.
