The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled three of its leaders from Sitakunda upazila in Chattogram for alleged breaches of party discipline and involvement in activities that were contrary to the organisation’s principles.
The decision was announced in a press statement issued on Friday, signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The statement said the disciplinary action was taken due to “conduct inconsistent with the party’s policies and organisational values.”
The expelled leaders are Kamal Kader, convener of the BNP’s Sitakunda upazila unit; Md Morsalin, former president of the Chattogram North District Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal; and Korban Ali Sahed, member secretary of the Sitakunda unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
According to the statement, their primary memberships and all organisational positions within the party have been revoked until further notice.
Party sources said the decision came four days after the protests and violence in Chattogram over party nominations.
On Monday, BNP released a preliminary list of candidates for 237 constituencies, triggering demonstrations, road blockades, and clashes across the country. Kazi Salauddin, joint convenor of Chattogram North District BNP, was named as the party’s candidate for the Chattogram-4 (Sitakunda) constituency.
