The families of two soldiers killed in an explosion during tank firing at the Hathazari Field Firing Range in Chattogram met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister handed over financial assistance checks and assured them that the government and the army would always stand beside the families of the fallen.

The meeting took place Tuesday morning at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon. The prime minister spoke with the families, expressed deep condolences, and offered words of comfort.

Tarique was accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman, Chief of Army Staff General Waker‑Uz‑Zaman, and senior army officials.

He said, “Our soldiers gave their lives while performing their duty for the country. They are martyrs for the nation. Their sacrifice will be remembered with deep respect.”

Addressing the bereaved families, he added, “We are with you in this time of grief and will remain so. The government and the army will always stand beside your families. Along with necessary assistance, the government will take responsibility for the care of the families of the martyred soldiers.”

Later, he handed over financial assistance checks to the families.

The army also announced initiatives to build houses for the families at their permanent addresses, provide employment opportunities for the widows, and monthly allowances for the children.

On 9 September, two soldiers were killed in an explosion during tank firing at the Hathazari Field Firing Range. They were Soldier (Operator) Abu Bakar Siddiq and Soldier (Gunner) Md Tasnim Rifayat.
