BNP standing committee is set to hold a meeting on Monday night to discuss the preliminary finalisation of more than 200 nomination seekers for the upcoming national election.
The party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman will preside over the meeting, where those receiving the political “green signal” will be primarily confirmed as candidates for the 13th parliamentary election.
Tarique is scheduled to sit virtually with nomination seekers from Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet and divisions at the party chairperson’s political office in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Monday afternoon.
On Sunday evening, he held two separate meetings, first with nomination seekers from Chattogram and Rangpur divisions and then with those from Mymensingh, Faridpur and Cumilla divisions, where discussions were held on election strategies and nomination prospects.
Tarique told the aspirants that whoever receives nomination must receive full support from all others in the constituency and said genuine BNP activists would never attempt to split the party.
Participants listened to speeches from the acting chairman and senior leaders, though nomination seekers were not given the floor to speak during the sessions.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sarkar, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed attended the meetings along with relevant organisational secretaries.
