BNP has made arrangements for a residence and multiple offices for its acting chairman Tarique Rahman in anticipation of his return to Bangladesh later this month.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP’s newly set-up office at House 10/C on Road 90 in Gulshan, Mahdi Amin, adviser to BNP acting chairman, said Tarique Rahman will reside at House No. 196 on Gulshan Avenue. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia currently lives next door at the rented residence known as Firoza.
Mahdi Amin said a separate chamber has been set up for Tarique Rahman at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office. In addition, another house in Gulshan has been rented to coordinate all activities related to the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Describing the new Gulshan office as a key operational centre, Mahdi Amin said all election-related activities would be managed from there.
He added that Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on 25 December, a development that has generated widespread public interest and enthusiasm.
Reel-making competition announced
Marking Tarique Rahman’s homecoming, Mahdi Amin announced a national reel-making competition titled ‘Amar Bhabnai Bangladesh’ (Bangladesh in My Vision).” The competition will remain open until Tarique Rahman’s return.
He said people from all walks of life, both at home and abroad, will be able to submit one-minute reel videos online, sharing their ideas, plans and aspirations for building the nation. Submissions may include personal messages, satire, songs, dialogues, documentary-style animation, or creative combinations of images and artwork.
Mahdi Amin said the top 10 winners, selected on merit, will be given the opportunity to meet Tarique Rahman in person at a special event.
The press conference was attended by BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council members Ismail Zabihullah and Ziauddin Haider, Foreign Relations Committee member Saimum Parvez, and Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, among others.
Shairul Kabir Khan said party leaders and activists are eagerly awaiting Tarique Rahman’s return, expressing hope that he will play a leading role in restoring democracy and building a modern, self-reliant state.
Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Tarique Rahman will return to Dhaka on 25 December after nearly 18 years in exile in London.
He said the party has taken extensive preparations to welcome him, with leaders and activists expected to line the streets in an orderly manner and receive him at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
A joint meeting of BNP and its affiliated organisations was held on Monday at the chairperson’s Gulshan office to finalise reception arrangements. The meeting was chaired by Mirza Fakhrul.
House No. 196 on Gulshan Avenue was originally allocated to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia following the assassination of President Ziaur Rahman through a unanimous decision of the cabinet, led by then president Justice Abdus Sattar.
Few months ago, the property documents were formally handed over to Khaleda Zia by Housing and Public Works adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Rajuk Chairman Md Riazul Islam.
Security preparations at the residence are nearing completion, with CCTV cameras installed along the road and security booths set up in front of the house, security officials said.
