BNP Standing Committee Member and Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) candidate Salahuddin Ahmad on Thursday vowed that the party would ensure equal civic and religious rights, security, and freedom for people of all faiths.
Speaking at a campaign rally organised by the Chakaria Upazila BNP in the Hindu-majority Boraitali Union, he said the party’s manifesto includes the demands of the Hindu community and that BNP would protect the rights of all religious groups.
“We have appealed to people of all religions and communities that we are all Bangladeshis. This is our identity. There will be no division based on religion or caste, and we will not allow any such division,” he said.
Salahuddin described BNP as a political party committed to development and religious freedom, citing the party’s past performance.
He said the party’s founder, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, ensured the freedom of all religious communities from the outset, and later, party chairperson Khaleda Zia also stood for the rights of all communities.
He added that in the future, people of all faiths would continue to live in the country as Bangladeshis, united by nationalism. “The identity of all communities is one – we are all Bangladeshis. Everyone has equal rights in this country. Therefore, BNP’s slogan is simple, Bangladesh First,” he said.
Chakaria Upazila BNP President Enamul Haque and General Secretary M Mubarak Ali, among others, also spoke at the rally.
